What is your Comfort Food story?

by the Dreaded Woodworker

I do not know about y’all, but when I was growing up, the kitchen in my home was the place to be! EVERYONE entered the house from the back door which just happened to open into the kitchen.

There were so many fun and good memories made in that kitchen. We would spend hours there visiting with family and friends. The kitchen was the place to be because that is where the food and drink were! When folks came over, one of the first things my mom would ask was, “Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?” And if the answer was yes, it was on and popping! Out came the cutting board and those sharp ass knives! Lol!

You see, my mom didn’t just cook for anybody. She cooked for the people that she loved. And when she cooked, she got down!

All the tools that she used to cook for us helped prepare those meals with love. The tools are just as important as the food because how can you get busy in the kitchen if the pan or pot gets too hot, or if the knives are not sharp enough or the cutting board is warped? Using garbage tools would not lead to a good cooking experiences. Period.

My mom used the right tools to get the job done. In the military we used to say, “I did the best job I could with the tools at my disposal.” My mom provided us with good eating experiences, that led to good life experiences and memories that I will never forget. Christmas, Turkey Day, birthdays or just any random day…such great memories.
